To help visitors explore Emily Dickinson's life and legacy, the Museum offers guided tours of the Dickinson houses as well as a self-guided audio tour of the outdoor grounds. Visitors are encouraged to take the house tour that best suits their interests. Descriptions of each tour are below. The grounds audio tour is complimentary with a house tour ticket or may be rented on its own.
Visits to the Emily Dickinson Museum begin at the Tour Center. Located in the Homestead, the Tour Center houses a ticket desk, the Museum shop, and a universally-accessible restroom. An exhibit about the publication of Emily Dickinson's poetry is also located in the Tour Center. The Tour Center is open free of charge.
To see the Homestead and The Evergreens beyond the Tour Center, you must be part of a guided tour. Tours, for which a fee is charged, are offered throughout the day. Tickets for Museum tours are sold at the ticket desk in the Tour Center. Tour prices are listed in the chart below. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. For the comfort of our visitors and the safety of our collections, tour size may be limited. Both the Homestead and the Evergreens are air conditioned in the summer.
Individual visitors cannot reserve tickets in advance of the day of the visit. The Museum is happy to arrange tours for groups (parties composed of six or more people). Reservations for group tours must be made at least two weeks in advance and are subject to availability. For additional information about about Group Tours, please visit Group Tours, Field Trips, and Museum Outreach.
The daily tour schedule is posted outside the Tour Center entrance. The schedule is subject to change due to special events or group tours. See box to the right for general museum hours. Please call 413-542-2947 or e-mail info@emilydickinsonmuseum.org with questions.
Visit Group Tours for information about parties of 6 or more.
Admission to tours is free for members of the Friends of the Emily Dickinson Museum! Join online to receive free admission and other valuable benefits.
