Visitor Code of Conduct
At the Emily Dickinson Museum, the health and safety of our staff and visitors is our top priority. We are dedicated to providing a welcoming experience for everyone and we invite curiosity, creativity, and connection. Visitors to the Emily Dickinson Museum agree to comply with the following requirements for conduct:
- Visitors will not engage in verbally abusive, harassing, discriminatory, or threatening statements (verbal or written) or behavior toward staff or other visitors.Â
- In the event of an emergency, visitors will follow directions from the Museum staff.
- Visitors will refrain from smoking and vaping inside the buildings and on the Museum campus.
- Ticket holders who arrive late may or may not be permitted to join their tour at the management’s discretion.
- Service animals are welcome on site, including within the historic houses. Leashed pets accompanied by their owner(s) may explore the grounds, but they may not enter the Museum’s buildings.
- In addition to the items above, visitors to the historic houses must abide by the following house rules:
- Due to the nature of the small historic rooms, visitors will keep their voices at a courteous volume and be mindful of their movements throughout the tour. Visitors with large bags may be asked to carry them on their front or stow them out of the way.
- Refrain from touching or leaning on furniture, walls, and objects.
- Food, chewing gum, and beverages other than water are not permitted inside the houses.
- Non-flash photography is permitted on site. Consent must be obtained for images of visitors or staff. Video and audio recordings of the tour are not permitted.
- Visitors are asked to silence their cell phones while on the tour.
- On guided tours visitors must remain with their group.
